Peter,
If you will send me your email address, I will send you a diagram of an
NFT trough you can make yourself.

Ted,
I have had some experience with both corregated fiberglass and polycarbonate
at my house on my 900 ft. Sq. greenhouse and at the local botanical gardens.
The polycarbonate does last longer and has less heat loss than the
fiberglass, but I do not think it is cost effective. The polycarbonate lasts
about 15 years here, the fiberglass about 12 years. The fiberglass should be
cleaned anually. That will give you something to do while walking in your
gutters. Also, use only the fiberglass panels sold by greenhouse suppliers,
not the stuff from the local discount house. The good stuff has much better
UV protecters in/on it. It is also important to install the panels right side
out as the UV inhibitors are frequently on one side only. The brand I like ,
Plastic Steel, has a label on each sheet telling you which side faces the sun.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dave

Jason,
There is not a crop around that cannot grow just fine without
manufactured fertilizer, even in a high tech NFT system. manure was the
original fertilizer and is still champion. Of course that is just in my
opinion.

Melvin,
Have you successfully used any other manures than fish manure in
hydroponics? One of our agricultural research centers is doing well
with pelletized COMPOSTED chicken manure under the drippers in
run-to-waste systems (to avoid fermentation I believe). They determine
when to add fresh fertilizer and establish the amount of manure using
very expensive sensors, so they haven't fine-tuned the process for
common folks.
