    Tim,

I don't know where you're at and I'm not familiar with Creek Chubs
but Golden Shiners, according to Fundamentals of Aquaculture (available
through AgVenture magazine for $70 v $100 from a well known mail-order
outfit), spawn up to 10,000 eggs (at a water temp. of 70 deg.) per female at
about 1 year of age or 6.4 cm. Spawning mats are set out to collect the
sticky eggs and afterwards removed to a nursery pond for hatching out. They,
of course, are used for bait fish but some could also be sold, for aquarium
use, at a higher rate.

More aquaculture information is available through the state extension
service of the various states. Since the Golden Shiner is typically raised
in the mid-South try contacting: Southern Regional Aquaculture Center, Delta
Branch Exp. Sta., P.O. Box 197, Stoneville, MS 38776. Ask for a list of
their SRAC publications (videos are also available on some subjects) and a
copy of the Aquaculture Overview as well as information on chub and shiners.

        Best of luck!
            David

Melvin

We do most of our growing in perlite. We are going to put some gutters in
this summer with NFT using strips of polystyrene with holes cut in them
lining the gutters..
