Everybody, these type of requests can be sent by e-mail directly

to the person you are requesting the information from without

cluttering up the group. Just a gentle suggestion.

Adriana

can you please send me a copy of the biogas series?

This morning I noticed that someone had posted an attachment called

Happy.exe. DO NOT open this! I am on a list that was recently overwhelmed by

this file. It appears to be a worm that is not recognized by most virus

checkers.

You said:"I have a raft hydroponics system "

May I please ask for a short explanation why people use "raft" systems? I

assume it is for propping up plants in the solution? But I still do not

know why they need to float? Jorg Ostrowski

Thanks Mike,

I knew the feeling to delete rather than open was a good choice!

If you look inside of the code, you'll see that the virus will patch your

WINSOCK.DLL and other files to what it needs for itself, and then create

some files in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

Restart in MS-DOS mode and do the following (assuming windows is in

WINDOWS on drive C:)

C: [enter]

CD \WINDOWS\SYSTEM [enter]

DEL SKA.EXE [enter]

DEL SKA.DLL [enter]

(if you receive a file not found, you aren't infected with Happy99)

COPY WSOCK32.SKA WSOCK32.DLL

(answer Yes if it asks you if you want to overwrite)

DEL WSOCK32.SKA

EXIT

Windows will now restart. Now, go to Start - Run and type regedit in the

box. The registry editor will appear.

Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows ->

CurrentVersion -> RunOnce

If you can see SKA.EXE anywhere there - delete it from the registry. Save

changes and exit. You'll find a file called LISTE.SKA somewhere on your

hard drive. It will contain the e-mail addresses of the people you've

infected. Warn then if you like (I wouldn't.. they'll find out themselves)

and then remove that file. Then restart your computer, and your system is

clean.

It is really bad form to send file attachments to mailing lists.

Chris,

Adriana did not intentionally send this attachment. Happy99.exe sends it

itself without the authors knowlege. Another list I was on got infected by

Happy99.exe also. It seems to be croping up everywhere.

Oops. Wrong address. Here it is again.

If anyone has opened happy.exe and is not comfortable with registry editing,

go to http://www.datafellows.com/news/pr/eng/19990129.htm. There is some

more info about happy.exe and some software that you can download to rid

yourself of it.

As Wendy pointed out, most people that spread this insidious little beast do

so unintentionally.
