I have just returned from the Ohio Ecological Food and Farming
Association's annual conference where Anna Edey was a keynote speaker and
workshop presenter. Wow! Her book, Solviva: How to Grow $500,000 on One
Acre and Peace on Earth is fabulous and covers many of the subjects we
often discuss: permaculture, wastewater management, greenhouse design,
sustainable food production, energy capture, etc. Surprisingly, she
doesn't incorporate fish into her system. There is plenty of brain food
here, however.

Jorg,
If you call the number below you can talk to Ana herself. She
has the book in stock and can send it out the same day if you
give her a Visa or MC.

adios everybody -
I've got to focus more attention on pulling in some paid work, so
I'm unsubbing from the list. Thank you to everybody for all the information
and lively discussion. Sorry fior the misunderstandings.
If anybody comes across anything that they think I might might be
interested in, please feel free to contact me directly (phlesch@sfo.com).
Likewise, if I see anything that might be of interest to the group, I'll
send it your way.

Subject: Pond Scum
From: Dave Miller
Date: Tue, 16 Mar 1999 18:18:31 -0500
My mom has just moved to a house that has a pond (it also has two
greenhouses - hint hint).
Yesterday it snowed about 5-6" and today alot melted. By the afternoon,
my mom claims that the pond had a tan pond scum, probably due to the
snow melting.
The property is not near anything industrial in fact it is quite
isolated. There is an out-building not yet fully cleaned and we are
trying to rule out any motor oil. It is not a slick, it is more like
froth or soap bubbles yet brownish.
Can anyone from the group help or suggest? Concerns are that both ducks
and geese use the pond freely.
When the greenhouses get repaired I am hoping to convince my mom
(turning 60 in May) to create a symbiotic space, possibly aquaponics.
One greenhouse is a "potting shed" with == BTW this "new" space is her
Y2K space
