You said:"What a great idea Jorg! Do you suppose there is
a market for bottled Hawaiian Rain Water?
Out of curiosity what brand of paint do you use on the
roof and where do you buy it. Some non-toxic waterproof
paint would come in handy."

Kevin: Our roof is a latex based elastomeric polymer membrane over regular
asphalt shingles. On most of our projects prepainted metal roofing is
used. That would work better, if the roof was used for water export, if
this idea has any practicality and market. Could aquarium suppliers, fish
importers, etc. use this water? Jorg ostrowski

Jorg,
The only way to know is to talk to them. Take in a sample and any
chemical analysis you've got and see what they say. On a gut level,
however, my sense is that anybody who is concerned about water quality
is also looking for consistency and is probably using reverse osmosis
for purification purposes. Rain water brings questions of acid rain and
air pollution, not to mention things like bird droppings and dust from
the roof.

Dave,
You can't go until you tell us what a veggie drummer is...I have visions
of you pounding on your drums with zucchinis, carrots and eggplants...

Hi,
Interesting,
We have a large water pond where we collect rainfall water from the =
greenhouse. Plenty of algae!!! What kind of fish you suggest to get rid =
of them. We have grass carp in the pond but I think they do not enjoy =
the algae. The algae are clogging our hydroponic system.

Are you referring to filamentous algae or phytoplankton. Grass carp or
tilapia will eat filamentous algae but no fish will get rid of phtoplankton.
Fish will eat it but more will grow immediately and replace it. Clams are
good at filtering algae, but if they get rid of all of it, there goes their
food supply and they may die. Also freshwater clams produce larvae that
parasitize fish gills. The best technique would be to plant floating
macrophytes over a good portion of the pond, maybe half. They will shade the
phytoplanton and outcompete them for nutrients. Macrophytes (aquapic plants
like water lilies, water hyacinth, etc.) and phytoplankton are antagonistic
to some extent. If you shift the ecology in favor of macrophytes, your
water will be crystal clear. Jim R.

Adriana: I checked with a major fish importer and they use water straight
out of the city tap, with chlorine and flouride. I was surprised to hear
that, since both are very serious health concerns to humans. So far nobody
needs my clean water. We do not have acid rain in our area. Jorg Ostrowski

us in on how to drum with veggies before he leaves.
