The following inquiry was received yesterday. Thought I'd pass it along in

case we have any members who might be interested in bidding on this. I find

it encouraging that tilapia is a sought-after product in Germany. =20

We've not had any discussions lately about what species are currently being

produced by our members in various countries. It would be great to have an

update from anyone who has the time to post.

Meanwhile, if you have an interest to supply to this customer, please reply

directly to Matthias Grimm .

Thanks, Andrew - I'm passing the word to Coree with this post. Hope that

the venture works for both of you, or at the very least you can provide some

moral support and suggestions. And Coree, remember that we'll be glad to

post any additional questions you have to the list and report back.

Best of luck,

Paula

I've never grown parsley for calculations of harvest, sorry. It does regrow

for cutting about every-other week, so for weekly harvest, you'd need two

sections to work from. It's benefit is that it will produce continuously

until it hits that second year. As I explained:

Selling by the bunch, trying to stay somewhat with the industry norm when

selling to restaurants (or even retail). It does probably not pay for

itself when considered alone; but as an option for those customers who care

about HOW their product is grown, it's a definite marketing plus.

Other products that are typically sold by the bunch are dill,

>arugula,

>cilantro and tarragon.

Don't forget leaf celery (which makes a wonderful cream soup, by the way),

and grows the same as parsley.

Paula,

I grow lovage in my terrestrial garden. This is used as a celery substitute

in most recipies. Is the same as leaf celery?

I'm looking for information on post harvest cleaning of herbs in order to=

remove dirts (sand, earth etc) and also reduce micro organism responsible=

 for

browning of leaves and other problem that reduce product quality.

Could someone direct me to some source of information about that.

Also is there a product that can be used to kill insect that can be on th=

e plan

at harvest. The product must be safe to use and without residu after trea=

tment.

Herbs will be ship overseas.

Thank you,

Will herbs be shipped dried? or fresh? I would think food grade

hydrogen peroxide in the wash water would be good, maybe also packed in

Nitrogen atmosphere to reduce oxidation-keep fresher.. A good reference

to start w/ would be a U of California pub entitled "post harvest

technology of horticulturaL CROPS"... this is really geared towards

vegetable crops, but , I dont see why it wouldnt have some application

to herbs as well.

Tom--

One way is to line a bucket or aquarium with it and leave a couple of small

fish inside (w/an airstone--no feeding) for a couple of days.
