Corn, wood, shavings- if available- trash wood etc- all varieties of local
combustion are regulated by the Clean Air Acts in various States and the EPA
Combustion devise Regulations. The Ohio Valley, of instance, has a BAN on
anything that produces nitrous oxide. Combustion of about anything produces
NOX it's a matter of dose. On the big continuous combustion units Neal was
describing, there is a scrubber which reheats the gas to clear the NOX. For
a Taylor Waterstove- my personal favorite everything burner, the combunstion
process is once about every 8-12 hours- so the average 24hour production is
under Federal and State limits where there is not a NOX ban.
Before you buy- check your area laws and invest in the best technology for
your future air quality safety.

Ok, so here's what I have, and what I ended up doing...
I have a 125 gallon flat bottom round tank with a 1/4hp sumbersible pump.
My fish range in size anywhere from 1.5" to 3".
What I did was go to Home depot and get a cubicle mesh container (made for
this sort of problem in landscape ponds, and I inverted it down over my
pump, including the grate. The container is about 10" across, so when it is
installed, it extends the grate to about 4" from the original position.
This seems to work.
Unfortunately, I lost about 45 fish before I figured out there was a
problem...grrrrr. Oh well, my bet is that those won't be the only fish to
kick off in my system, since I hear so many people on the list talking aobut
how many fish they have kiiled over the years...
Thanks for the input everyone...Live and learn!!!

Devon, that signature bar of yours is down right Picasso-esque.
Or perhaps Piscado-esque.
Now we know the rest of the story....Picasso painted portraits like that
only after receiving the proper amount of inspiration from swilling Georgia
suds!
I'm a bit late too jump in here, but I am glad you got your problem fixed.
I figure any man that can build a brewery business with his brother is bound
to find the answers to a fish screening problem. Sorry you lost a few
fingerlings. It happens sometimes.
Live and learn.

Thanks Ted,
Fortunately (for my relationship with my brother), the brewing thing is not
a business...Just a fun way to spend (too many) days during the past four+
years drinking and brewing our favorite beers.
