Thanks Paula,

You are eloquent and beautiful as always. I try to limit my slamming of Mr.
M.S. "Just enough to "p
. him off"

Most of my dealings are positive though. Thanks again. Hope to meet you
someday.

Again, sorry for posting my original message to the list. It was a mistake.

Steve - I don't think any of us object to positive testimonials, especially
on equipment that may have applications to other list members. So if you
have had a good experience with a supplier, we'd like to hear about it.

As I've said to you before, though, I think it's best to err on the side of
caution when you have had a negative experience with a company or product.
If it pertains to a current discussion and you have some negatives to
report, I think a general statement to that effect with a request to take
the conversations off-list if anyone's interested is a more appropriate way
to go. There is a very fine line between negative comments and what can be
construed as slander -- I think it's best left to private email. Keep in
mind that even though our archives are not current, much of what is
discussed here is reposted in various other places on the internet. Hate
to see you get tied up in a lawsuit and have to abandon your project :>)

Hi Gang,

Well, I have my "ducks in a row" this time. Paula said it was o.k. to submit
this.

I have a tremendous story and a glowing recommendation. I, again, have to
say that I get no special kickback, renumeration or anything for this. It is
just a story that is kind of neat and the people involved should be
recognized.

I, as most of you know, live in Wisconsin. It gets really cold up here.
Tilapia, as you know, need to be kept at a temp of +/- 80F. I tried to do
this in a number of ways: space heater, grow lights, etc. I just did not
want to spend the money on a tank heater. They are expensive. I finally,
last winter, gave in and ordered a tank heater from Mr. Doug Drennan.
douglas 'at' aquasales.com. Doug has a couple of companies in the Fla. area
dealing with aquaculture and aquaponics.

Anyway, I didn't have the money at that time. The heater was +/- $230 and he
only had 1. We went back and forth. He was very kind. I told him that I
didn't have the money, but I really needed THAT heater. This gentleman put
it aside and held it for me on just my word. (He didn't know what a kind
person I am
."socially insensitive"

.LUV THAT!!) Well, to make a long
story short, I finally came up with the money and ordered the heater. Well,
as impulsive as I am, I soon burned out one of the fuses. I called Doug and
he helped me with reordering the fuses. Shortly after that, the electrical
sensor burned out

.the ground wire wasn't connected. He & his staff
directed me to the company that actually produced the heater: CLEPCO. I
contacted them and talked to a lady named Joyce in Homestead, Fla. I told
her that I had tried to replace the defective part, but was unable to find
it locally. She told me that I wasn't to mess with it
.just send the whole
thing back to them. I just, a couple of days ago, received a BRAND NEW
HEATER from these people.

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!! In a day and age where everybody is trying to limit
liability

.I get contacted by this individual, Doug, because of a posting
in the aquaponics list, and he is so kind and helpful. Also his associate
company, Cleveland Processing Co., CLEPCO, out of Homestead, Fl. is TOTALLY
UNBELIEVABLE.

I guess I can say, that if anyone needs anything in the
aquaponics/aquaculture field, pls. give doug a call/email. He may not be the
cheapest around but he is certainly competitive and his warranty and
availability is AWESOME!

Just a quick thanks Doug

Yours truly

.Steve

Hi Adrianna,

I believe that 12 1/2' wide is the maximum width
.only reason being is the
greenhouse cover. The length is "as long as your imagination". But, for
specifics, contact Wendy at the number I gave. If you lost it, I can find it
again.

Well, according to the weather people, we are supposed to experience another
major storm within the next 24 hrs. We'll see. Pardon my "FRENCH", but
"damned" this Wisconsin weather. It is either freezing, hundred mph winds or
mosquitoes
.can't win. BUT, GOD, IT IS A BEAUTIFUL STATE!!

Take care

.Steve

Steve,
Do they make any big greenhouses, or just hobby sized? By big I mean
at least 30' x 96'.

Hi Gang,

I'm totally disgusted with my fish performance. I initially ordered Mike
Sipe's breeders and they did extremely well. But in trying to finish this
line I have a lot of inbreeding which is causing problems. This is evident
by Mr. Bruce Shreiber's comments.

I would like to purchase another 1,000 fingerlings, but am having problems
finding a provider for such a small amount. Anyone have any input?

Thanks

Devon:
The best wide range for your plants should be between 5.5 to 6.5. If you
want to be in a much better range, more difficult to keep, you should be
between 5.8 to 6.3.
I believe these ranges are good for your fish also. But since I'm not an
expert, I belive Paula will have the right answer for the second part of the
history.
If you still want to go up on the pH scale, I will suggest a well
diluted KOH solution (NEVER CONCENTRATE). It will give you ions K+ and ions
HO- , both good for plants, and it will rise your pH.

Subject: Mohapatha greenhouse design
From: "bennett"

Hello all,
I am really intrigued with the Mohapatha greenhouse design, now that I've
seen it. (Thank you Carlos and Adrianne for getting it posted on a web
site.) http://www.geocities.com/c_arano
I do have some questions that I'd welcome others in the list to discuss:
1 - What kinds of "rope" or twine would hold up under humidity and
sunlight for at least 5 years?
2 - Will this design work with the double layer of plastic air pillow
design commonly used here in the USA?
3 - Will it handle snow loads?
Probably I'll think of more later, but really am interested in
incorporating it in a "standard hoop" design, 'cause I have some hoops!

I would think that the braided nylon which you can get at Home Depot
would hold up. The stuff seems indestructible. You might look into
"marine" products since they are exposed to lots of sun and water.
The type of stuff used to tie bumpers to the sides of bosats or to tie
a boat to a dock. A quick call to the technical department of the
manufacturer of these products should be enough to tell you how UV
stable these are.

I don, t see why not.

I think "gothic" arches are better for snow because the steeper slopes
encourage the snow to slide off rather than accumulate. Maybe you can
modify your standard arches to increase the pitch.

I suspect that Mohapatra's book may address the snow issue since he is
currently in residence in North Carolina.
